Sometimes we all feel like putting on a front. In fact, most of us do this every day we close the front door behind us! And it’s OK to have that ‘face to the world’, as long as it doesn’t stop us from actually being ourselves.
Yes, sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes people make us feel we’re not ‘good enough’. It’s in those situations that we all need a little boost that tells us it’s alright to be who we truly are.
And what better way to do that than with a quote. We love the following 9 quotes, because they’re all about believing in the one person who you can honestly rely on in life – you! So stand up tall, and shout out to the world, “I am what I am…” (That one’s for free – courtesy of the wonderful Dame Shirley Bassey.)
1. “You’re lucky enough to be different. Never change”. – Taylor Swift
Queen of pop, Taylor Swift, gets it spot on here. You, yes – that’s YOU – are different. And how great is that? Don’t’ let anyone tell you anything contrary to that, and don’t ever let anyone persuade you to be anything else.
2. “So you’re a little weird? Work it! A little different? Own it! Better to be a nerd than one of the herd”. – Mandy Hale
Oh yeah, Mandy Hale, you certainly rock! This quote is about celebrating your uniqueness. About actively portraying why you’re that little bit ‘odd’. Because, let’s face it, who on earth wants to be thought of as ordinary?
3. “We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better hiding it, that’s all”. – John Hughes
OK, so this is very true. And actually, it’s a bit of a ‘stop and think’ quote, because yes, we’re all different (AKA bizarre). So if that’s true, why on earth would some people want to hide what they truly are? Food for thought, eh?
The important take away from this quote is that what we shouldn’t be doing is hiding our true selves. Because, it’s only by being yourself that you can be truly happy. And who doesn’t want to be happy?
4. “Live authentically. Why would you continue to compromise something that’s beautiful to create something that’s fake?” – Steve Maraboli
Yep, wise words here. You and your uniqueness is truly beautiful. So rather than pretending you’re something that you’re not (just because you think that’s what you ‘should’ be), shout out to the world that the real you is far more wonderful.
5. “Nothing can be more hurtful to your heart than betraying yourself”. – Roy T. Bennett
You, and only you, knows how you feel in your heart. And only you can be true to yourself. So if you betray yourself by trying to be something you’re not, then the only person who gets hurt is you.
(There’s a lot of ‘you’s’ in that explanation – sorry!)
6. “Maybe it’s NOT Maybelline. Maybe you were just born with it”. – Mandy Hale
Forget what the adverts tell us. It’s not about the make up (or the clothes, or the car, or the job title…). It’s really not. It’s about you, and your talents, and your charisma, and your quirkiness. Because you really are quirky – and that’s a good thing. So embrace it, and shout it out to the people. They’ll love you all the more…
7. “Most people just want to see you fall, that’s more reason to stand tall”. – Emma Michelle
Sadly there are many folks out there who take pleasure in what they consider to be the weaknesses of others. But guess what – that’s THEIR problem, not yours. And their opinions really don’t matter. So forget them, stand up tall, and show the real you to the world. Those who count will love you for it.
8. “Take care not to listen to anyone who tells you what you can and can’t be in life”. – Meg Medina
Oh yes, we’ve all come across those people who think they can tell us what we can and can’t do. Well @?!* them (This is an upstanding website so we’ve left it up to you to you to insert a suitable cuss word).
Seriously though, those people’s opinions are worth nothing. Because you, and only you, know exactly what you want or don’t want to do. And when it comes to achieving whatever it is you want in life, then baby, you rock…!
9. “You will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it”. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Continuing on from the previous quote, Emerson is quite correct in that we’ll always find yet another person who thinks they’ve got the right to tell you that what they think is better than what you do.
But hey – they don’t! So don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Be yourself – and be true to yourself – and your path in life will become clear (or at least a little less muddied). Because you are awesome. Never forget that…!
